Trauma
Trauma refers to experiences that overwhelm an individual’s ability to cope, leaving lasting emotional, psychological, and often physical effects. These experiences can result from events such as abuse, neglect, accidents, loss, or exposure to violence, but trauma can also occur from less obvious events, like prolonged stress or emotional hardship. The impact of trauma varies greatly from person to person, but it often leads to symptoms like anxiety, depression, flashbacks, nightmares, emotional numbness, or difficulty trusting others.
The good news is that trauma can be healed. Treatment typically involves a combination of therapeutic approaches, including trauma-focused therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused psychodynamic therapy. Using these therapies, we help individuals process traumatic memories, reframe negative thought patterns, and build healthier emotional responses.
Additionally, mindfulness techniques are effective in addressing the somatic aspects of trauma, helping individuals release stored tension and reconnect with their bodies. Through these various approaches, we help our clients reclaim their sense of safety, heal emotional wounds, and rebuild a fulfilling life.
