Anxiety

Within reason, anxiety can be helpful, causing us to remain alert in certain situations, perform under pressure, or prompting us to meet an important deadline. But anxiety can become disruptive, getting in the way of our lives, causing us to worry excessively, perseverate, and lose control of our minds. While everyone will have some experiences of uncomfortable anxiety in their lives, about 20 percent of the population manage an ongoing anxiety disorder.  Patients may be experiencing generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, or specific phobias, like the fear of flying. At Prospect Psychology, we help patients learn to manage and reduce the intensity of anxiety symptoms through evidence-based techniques. We determine the type of anxiety a patient is experiencing, and we support patients in developing skills to calm their mind and body, accept or challenge negative thought patterns, reduce avoidance behaviors, and confront feared situations.
